Measurement & Installation Planning Guide
Good fixture selection begins with accurate site information. This guide helps organize measurements and questions before ordering; final installation decisions should be confirmed by a qualified professional familiar with the product and local requirements.
Create a project record
Photograph the installation area, existing connections, mounting holes, and access points. Record measurements in the same unit throughout the project and label each dimension clearly. Keep product links, specification sheets, and installer notes together.
For deck-mounted faucets
- Count the mounting holes and measure their diameter.
- Measure center-to-center spacing between holes.
- Record countertop or sink-deck thickness.
- Measure from the mounting point to the center and edges of the basin.
- Check clearance behind and beside the faucet for handle movement.
- Confirm access to supplies and mounting hardware below the surface.
For wall-mounted faucets
- Record hot and cold inlet locations and center spacing.
- Measure from the finished wall—not unfinished framing—to the basin.
- Determine the required spout projection and installation height.
- Account for tile, backer board, plaster, or other finished-wall buildup.
- Confirm service access and valve or rough-in requirements.
For shower systems
- List every outlet and its desired position.
- Record finished-wall depth, supply locations, mounting heights, and available pressure.
- Determine whether outlets should run separately or together.
- Confirm valve, diverter, trim, head, arm, and hand-shower compatibility.
- Plan access before walls are closed.
For freestanding tub fillers
Record the tub height, rim width, filler position, spout reach, floor construction, supply location, and movement clearance. The anchoring and below-floor connection plan must be resolved before installation.
Final pre-order check
Match every recorded requirement against the exact product specification. Verify included parts, compatible components, finish, quantity, and local code considerations. If information is unclear, contact Vintaless with the product link and your measurements before ordering.
How to measure spout reach
For a deck-mounted faucet, measure the horizontal distance from the mounting center to the outlet center. For a wall-mounted faucet, check whether the drawing measures projection from the finished wall or from another reference point. Compare that dimension with the sink position and the intended water landing point. Spout height is a separate measurement.
Allow for handle movement and hand clearance. Confirm the drawing with your installer, especially for wall-mount bathroom faucets and vessel sinks.
